I really enjoyed watching Maya Dunsky and Menifa Ensemble.I have never watched a style of movement of this kind- their bodies move in such a unique and versitile way.
ReplyDeleteWhen watching i was extremely intrigued and fascinated by the individuality of each dancer.
I appreciate what i am watching and enthusuastic about creating my own take on 'Butoh' inspired by these videos and research.
i was thinking...the link 'Maya Dunsky and Menifa ensamble part 2,' the section where all the performers are on the bench...think this relates quite well to our "seductive/scary" group section. Maybe we could take these qualities into the movement?
ReplyDeleteGreat to think about how you could be influenced by or link your work to this piece and company.
ReplyDeleteIt would be good to try to locate what it is that makes their expressions/actions 'other' or as you say 'scary' and consider how you could draw this out more in your work so far.
From watching the peices, my first impression is of the slow and controlled movements. From a spectator, it is almost painful to watch because its so slow, the idea that it is awkwardly slow could become relevant in our opening section??

ReplyDeletereminds me of slug excerise wedid in class and the how we developed that into the start of our piece. it has given me movemnt ideas of the spine and how i can develop my body movments in the start section.
